Health priorities of the European Union

Launching a public debate on health in 2024 and beyond

Wednesday, 27 September 2023 | 10:15-11:30 | Kursaal

Organised by the European Commission Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) and the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies

The European Observatory on Health Systems and policies, in agreement with the European Commission, launches a public debate on the EU health priorities, building on the current activities, and on recent years achievements. To start the debate, the discussions will focus on nine relevant policy topics, which can be expanded.

The crises we are facing, have brought health to the forefront of the EU's political agenda. They have led to significant changes in EU budgets, organisational missions, and overall setup for health-related matters. These responses have showcased the potential of EU action in promoting solidarity, human rights, efficiency, and global influence through health policies.

But the challenge is not over. The changes and movement for a most ambitious EU in health need to be upheld. The question, is how to keep health high on the political agenda and how to build upon the current positive experiences and realise their full potential.
