Closing the care gap: Poland’s Core Medical Zones as a blueprint for resilient and equitable health systems

Wednesday, 1 October 2025 | 11:45-12:15 | Conference Centre

Organised by the Ministry of Health Poland

Across Europe healthcare systems are under unprecedented strain. Ensuring that every citizen - no matter where they live - can access timely and high-quality care is no longer optional – it is a policy imperative.

Poland’s innovative core medical zones model is a pioneering response. By defining clear qualitative and quantitative indicators, these zones aim to guarantee nationwide coverage with services tailored to local needs. The approach integrates patient communication and feedback as central elements, transforming patients from passive recipients into active partners in care design.

This Networking Break will present real-world insights from the implementation of core medical zones, offering practical lessons for policymakers and healthcare leaders. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a dynamic exchange of experiences, addressing the challenges of “medical deserts” and shortages of skilled professionals and infrastructure. Together we will explore what is truly missing - and how collaborative, evidence-based strategies can close these gaps and build more resilient and equitable health systems.
