More equitable access via EU patient mobility

Wednesday, 30 September 2026 | 18:15-19:15 | Conference Centre

Organised by the University of Verona

Ensuring equitable access to healthcare is essential for strong and resilient health systems as part of the European Health Union. In the face of demographic change, technological transformation, and geopolitical tensions putting pressure on public systems, reducing inequalities in access to care and enhancing the efficiency in the provision of healthcare throughout the European Union (EU) is a priority.

The Horizon Europe funded FLASH project is exploring several strategies to achieve this result. The session aims to stimulate discussion on the state of the art and the way forward regarding one of these strategies, namely the role of cooperation in cross-border healthcare.

Through a multi-disciplinary and multi-stakeholder lens, we will spark debate on the real barriers and facilitators of patient mobility in the EU – from the legal framework to the economic realities, and the critical interplay between them. What's holding patients back from accessing care across borders – and what will it take to move forward?
