Session 8
Wednesday, 1 October 2025 | 10:30-11:45 | Conference Centre
In one of the largest responses to mental health challenges ever implemented, a partnership between the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the European Commission provided mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) to persons affected by the international armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The project involved 28 National Red Cross Societies and local partners, exemplifying solidarity in health through collective action and shared responsibility for the psychological recovery and well-being of the affected people, both in Ukraine and among those displaced across Europe. The session will draw on the insights of people with lived experience while outlining key learnings from the project. Furthermore, it will explore what is required for impactful and sustainable MHPSS interventions, reinforcing a forward-thinking approach on how to build resilient, accessible, and proactive mental health systems of the future.
