European Health Leadership Award 2023

The European Health Leadership Award (EHLA) showcases and supports the achievements of organisations that display exceptional leadership in safeguarding or improving the health of people in the WHO European Region. The Award, which includes prize money of EUR 10.000, is funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection and is organised by the European Health Forum Gastein (EHFG).

The EHLA encourages winners to become an inspiration for others and supports them in generating a greater impact. Each year, the EHLA tries to identify and support change-makers whose work represents efforts in line with the EHFG main theme. This year, we want to explore ways to counter the multiple shockwaves affecting our health systems and overcome the palpable sense of fatigue caused by a feeling that major challenges are beyond our power to influence. From the pandemic to the war in Ukraine, the cost-of-living crisis, and the climate emergency, our health systems, and in particular the health and care workforce, are being stretched to their limits.

The EHLA 2023 seeks to identify an ongoing grassroot initiative from an organisation that is working to address one of these crises and build more sustainable and shock-proof health systems in Europe. Grassroot initiatives can include small-scale projects; low-budget initiatives; movements and organisations using bottom-up approaches and collective action to implement change at the local, regional, national or international level.

The winner will be announced at the Award ceremony taking place in Bad Hofgastein on 27 September 2023 in the context of the EHFG 2023.
