The winner receives a prize money of €10.000. The European Health Leadership Award is organised by the European Health Forum Gastein and supported by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection.
The European Health Leadership Award (EHLA) showcases and supports the achievements of individuals and organisations that display exceptional leadership in safeguarding or improving the health of people in Europe.
The last two years have seen people across Europe applauding healthcare professionals for their heroic efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the pandemic has also spotlighted the vital need to put the sustainability, protection and recovery of the healthcare workforce at the centre of investment, planning and policymaking, as we slowly edge towards a recovery that has been made possible in no small part due to their dedicated professionalism and sacrifices.
In 2021, the EHLA was therefore looking for an outstanding intervention from an individual or organisation concerned with supporting the health and well-being of the health workforce in Europe, and hence contributing to a more resilient future for health in Europe. The Award simultaneously aims to both express gratitude for their work and promote their initiative so that it can become an inspiration for others to further generate a greater impact on health and societal well-being.
Upon being nominated for the European Health Leadership Award 2021, nominees were invited by EHFG to submit supportive material regarding their initiative before being further shortlisted. The shortlisted initiatives were evaluated by an expert jury, whose members were:
Sara Barragán Montes, YFG Taskforce member
Mira Dasic, Head of Secretariat, South-eastern Europe Health Network (SEEHN)
Stefan Eichwalder, Head of department, Austrian Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection
Matthias Wismar, Senior Health Policy Analyst, European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies
