Mrs. Maggie De Block (°1962) is the Belgian Minister of Social Affairs, Public Health, and Asylum and Migration.
Mrs. De Block studied medicine at the Free University of Brussels. She graduated as a doctor of Medicine, Surgery and Obstetrics and worked as a general practitioner. In light of this experience, she has always been strongly committed to an evidence-based approach to public health.
Since 1999, Mrs. De Block is a Member of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives. She was the Secretary of State for Asylum, Immigration and Social Integration from 2011 till 2014. Since 2014, she is the Belgian Minister of Social Affairs and Public Health. Following a government’s reshuffle in December 2018, Mrs. De Block additionally resumed responsibility for Asylum and Migration.
