This year's conference drew attention to the impact of the financial crisis and subsequent economic recession on health and health care. In line with the call for leadership made at the EHFG 2008, the global financial turmoil should not sway nations from existing commitments made to strengthen health systems.
Following the traditional Gastein approach, senior decision makers from policy and administration, business and industry, research and civil society discussed the impacts of the crisis but also its oppurtunities for health. In conclusion the headword "resilience" seems to be an appropriate way to handle the challenges of the crisis.
