Current Pharmaceutical Challenges
The pharmaceutical market is one of the most strictly regulated markets in all Member States of the EU. This is due to the occurrence of severe market failures especially because the coverage of costs is mostly secured by health insurances and not by the patient in need of pharmaceuticals. Therefore normal market mechanisms are inefficient in the pharmaceutical market and have to be complemented by interventions. These interventions have to address the common values and principles of health systems in the EU keeping in mind the importance of the pharmaceutical sector for Europe's wealth and competitiveness.
The presentations / discussion will address:
- current challenges with regards to access to pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical innovation
- the newly established network of competent authorities on pricing and reimbursement
- innovative approaches on budgeting and rebate agreements
- the post Pharmaceutical Forum perspective.
