Workshop 3

Reproductive health
Wednesday 06 October 2010 19:00–20:30

Individual choices in reproductive health

Medically assisted reproduction (MAR) treatments elicit significant medical, reproductive and economic influence in the EU. However, the implementation, legislation and reimbursement of these treatments, vary across all EU countries.

There is hard evidence of substantial infertility patient migration within Europe. The Parliament urged the Commission to ‘take into consideration the sensitive issue of infertility’ and to ‘ensure the right of couples to universal access to infertility treatment’.

It is the long-term objective of ESHRE that treatments of proven benefit should be available in Europe, irrespective of the patient’s income, place of residence or marital status.

  • Welcome: J Geraedts, Past Chairman, ESHRE
  • Medically assisted reproduction and society: L Gianaroli, Chairman, ESHRE
  • The patient's perspective: C Lewis Jones, Chairman Fertility Europe
  • The industry's perspective (tbc)
  • The political perspective: I de la Mata Barranco, Principal Adviser, DG SANCO, European Commission
  • Closing remarks: J Geraedts, Past Chairman, ESHRE

Organised by the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE)
