Workshop: EU Presidency Workshop

Presentation of the Czech and Swedish EU Presidencies

The Czech Republic holds its EU Presidency in the first half and Sweden in the following half of the year 2009. The Workshop will provide information on planned priorities and activities in the Council of Ministers in the field of health during 2009.During its Presidency the Czech Republic will focus on several topics within the area of public health sector. The Czech Republic would like to highlight the theme of financial sustainability of healthcare systems. The aim is to mention that the sustainability of systems relates not only to population ageing, but also to medical progress, new technologies as well as innovation. Furthermore, the Czech Republic would like to continue in effort of previous Presidencies and will focus on innovations in health especially in the area of eHealth for citizens, society and economy.Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has been identified as a common theme during 2009. The main intention of the Czech Republic in the field of AMR is to find suitable antibiotic stewardship and infection control programmes, to define standards and quality indicators and to identify potential models of supportand financing of national antibiotics programmes.To conclude the workshop, representatives from the Swedish government will outline the continued work in Council during the second half of 2009.
